Lesley Corrigan has been involved in dance most of her life. She began taking Ballet classes at age 3, and since then, she has been trained not only in Ballet, but also in Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, and Contemporary dance. During the last 14 years, she has worked as a teacher, choreographer, and studio director in and around the Shoals area. Her choreography has received numerous awards throughout the southeast, and many of her students have gone on to participate in collegiate dance programs and audition for professional dance companies. Lesley graduated summa cum laude from the University of Memphis with a degree in dance education. During her time in Memphis, she served as the vice-president of the University’s Dance Alliance, and was involved in the choreography and performance of several University productions and informal showings. She completed her
internship at Lee High School in Huntsville, which is a magnet school that supports dance and many other arts. At Lee, she worked closely with both the recreational and magnet dance students, teaching technique and performance skills as well as assisting with the production of the dance magnet’s annual dance concert. Lesley has participated in master classes with well-known dance companies including Ron K. Brown’s Evidence Company, Jose Limon Dance Company, and Hubbard Street Dance. She has also studied under several well-known dance professionals, including Anne Green Gilbert, Bill Evans, Robert Atwood, Tyce Diorio, Desmond Richardson, and Mia Michaels. In the summer of 2013, Lesley completed the certification to teach BarreAmped, an ultra-results oriented fitness regime based on modern and classical dance, Pilates, Yoga, and deep stretching Just last month, she completed the advanced level certification. Lesley is passionate about bringing BarreAmped to the Shoals because she has seen the changes in her own body and believes in the method’s ability to produce reliable results no matter the client. As the owner and director of Allegro Dance Arts, Lesley puts all of her creative energy towards making the studio a wonderful place for students to learn the art of dance. When she is not working on choreography or teaching class, she is busy planning events and public performances, among other projects. She also travels with the studio’s Performing Arts Team several weekends throughout the year. Lesley strives to provide the students at Allegro with a high quality and well rounded dance education, and hopes to inspire dancers to appreciate the art of movement and understand how it can enrich their lives. Lesley is extremely grateful for the opportunity to share her love and passion for dance with the community, and she hopes to be able to do so for many years to come!
